a fierce advocate for public education
Throughout my life, I have been committed to my community, family, and common sense values.
Early on, my parents instilled in me the importance of a school system where all children receive the support they need to thrive.
My first job out of college was teaching English. I served for five years as a program director of an English as a second language (ESL) program for adult refugees and immigrants.
I later worked at San Francisco State University, supporting faculty by working to secure financial support for community engagement programs and research projects.
proud mom and community organizer
When my son experienced a life-threatening incident at birth, I put my career on hold to become his fiercest champion. I advocated for him at his schools to ensure he received the critical care he needed.
The struggles I’ve had with the school district have motivated me to be a parent leader, mentoring other parents to advocate and organize for better schools. Several years ago, I co-founded the San Francisco Education Alliance, a grassroots, parent-led group. We organized parents citywide to stop a disastrous plan that would have permanently closed 13 neighborhood schools.
a leader with a vision
My parent peers and my son’s teachers elected me to serve as chair of the school site council at my son’s elementary school. Last year, I was appointed to represent middle school parents on SFUSD’s districtwide Local Control and Accountability Plan Advisory Committee to set goals, plan actions, and leverage resources for the 50,000 students enrolled in SFUSD.
I want to bring my practical skills and passion to the Board of Education to implement solutions that will ensure that all students can thrive.
